The climate year of Copenhagen

Copenhagen lies on an ice-age moraine, like almost all of Denmark. The urban area of Copenhagen consists of several islands, with the western larger part on the east coast of Zealand, and the eastern part consisting of several holms (small islands) and the northern half of the island of Amager in the Öresund. Copenhagen in Denmark and Malmö in Sweden are separated by the Öresund strait. In Copenhagen it does not get too hot in summer, but also not too cold in winter. Rapid weather changes are more frequent in summer. When the Baltic Sea freezes over in the Copenhagen area in winter, snow may fall for a long time and cold dominates the climate.

General information about Copenhagen

In Copenhagen, the visitor will not find any buildings older than from the 18th century, because over the centuries the city burned down three times and not all buildings were rebuilt the same. But the layout of the city has been preserved, so that today you can still find parks, squares and streets where the king once had them built. In the museums you can see the old city of Copenhagen and the modern city at the harbor quays. At Amagertorv the shopping heart beats faster, because here in Strøget you can find Danish porcelain, glass and silver, as well as Danish design from Royal Copenhagen and Illums Bolighus. Also worth a visit are the more than 100 year old amusement park Tivoli and the little mermaid made of bronze on the waterfront Langelinie, from the fairy tale by H. Chr. Anderson. Both are one of the city's landmarks. Worth seeing is the free city of Christiania and Amalienborg Castle, where the royal family lives. A beautiful place in the old town is the great plane tree, under whose huge crown you can enjoy the silence or listen to a concert.

Tourism Copenhagen

A nice time to visit Copenhagen is midsummer, with pleasant temperatures from June to September. The latitude of the city is the same as Moscow and Scotland, but still has a mild climate. The coldest months are January and February with maximum temperatures of 2°C to 4°C and an average of 10 rainy days, and the average lowest temperatures are around 0°C then. Sunny months are May to July with just under 18°C on average, but of course it can get warmer! Even in the summer you should take rainwear to Copenhagen, because of 365 days a year, it rains on 159!
