The climate year of Dublin

In Dublin, the maritime character of the island climate predominates. Due to the balancing effect of the Atlantic Ocean and the warm Gulf current, temperatures are relatively mild and constant throughout the year. Somewhat insidious, but completely normal for Dublin, are often the multiple weather changes within one day. Thus, a brilliant blue sky sometimes turns into a downpour within ten minutes.

The so-called microclimate in Dublin is also striking. Accordingly, it is usually a few degrees warmer in the city than in the outlying districts and suburbs.

General information about Dublin

Dublin is a true paradise for those interested in history and art. Worthwhile, for example, is a visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral, the medieval knight's castle Dublin Castle, the largest Viking cemetery outside Scandinavia and Trinity College including library. More than 200,000 books including the famous "Book of Kells" can be admired there.

The day can end perfectly with a Guinness in the entertainment district of Temple Bar. Those who are particularly interested can also learn all there is to know about the Irish beer brand at the Guinness Storehouse.

If you want to enjoy some nature, a short break on the peninsula of Howth, which lies only a few kilometers north of the city center, is a good idea. A train ride along the south coast to Bray is also beautiful.

Tourism Dublin

The year starts in Dublin with the mild winter months of January and February. This means that temperatures are usually always above freezing. Snow hardly ever occurs on the coast and thus in Dublin, which is about twenty meters above sea level. Nevertheless, the months of January and February are among the coldest of the year.

A good third of the days in the month of January are rainy. This is due to low-pressure areas that bring not only rain but also strong winds. However, Dublin is not as rainy as is often assumed. On the west coast, which is more exposed to the winds of the Atlantic, it rains much more often. On average, the amount of rain in Dublin is comparable to that in London.

In March and April, the daily hours of sunshine also increase. In Dublin, it remains particularly dry during these months. This is due to the cold European high pressure areas. May and June are the sunniest months. On average, the sun shines seven hours a day.

The summer months of July to August show the highest temperatures on the thermometer. The direct location at the Irish sea causes however straight also humid summer days. In addition, westerly winds now influence the climate of the entire island. They provide for an increasing cloudiness. Especially the month of August is usually quite rainy. The daylight shows eighteen hours in the months of July and August.

In September the temperatures drop only sensitively. It also becomes drier again. New fresh westerly winds reach Ireland and also Dublin. Partly it rains, partly isolated high pressure provides also for sun.

In October and November it becomes noticeably cooler, but also rainier again. The sun shines for a maximum of three hours a day. The beginning of winter in December is similar to January, which has already been described.
