France is located in the temperate climate zone. Due to its special location, the country has different weather conditions. In the west, the climate is influenced by the harsh weather on the Bay of Biscay. This bay of the Atlantic Ocean is characterized by strong swells and storms. In the east, the weather is influenced by the border with the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, the climate here is rather mild, but rainy. The weather in the interior of France is influenced by the relief. While continental conditions prevail in the northeast, the south is characterized by a maritime west-side climate.

France has an average annual rainfall of 700 to 1,000 mm. The northeast has a continental climate with cold and snowy winter months. Average temperatures range from -1.5° to 3.5° Celsius. In summer, it is pleasantly warm in the mountain massifs with average temperatures ranging from 13.5° to 25° Celsius. The Atlantic coast has warm temperatures between 13° and 24° Celsius and humid conditions in summer. The oceanic weather here provides snow-free and mild winters between 2° and 8° Celsius. The south is influenced on the one hand by the Atlantic, on the other hand by the maritime Mediterranean climate. With an average of 300 days of sunshine, there is hardly any precipitation. On the southeastern side, temperatures can rise above 30° Celsius in summer. In winter, temperatures do not fall below 0° Celsius. Central France is characterized by little rain, high summer temperatures of up to 24° Celsius and mild winter temperatures of at least 2° Celsius.
