After London and Birmingham, it is the third largest city in the United Kingdom and larger than Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Glasgow means as much as "green place" with what the many parks are meant. The music and design city has universities, the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. It is also, right after London, a popular city for shopping and also the center for alternative music. Snow Patrol, Amy Macdonald, and Biffy Clyro are all from Glasgow.
