The climate year of Guangzhou

The city of Guangzhou is located in the southern Chinese province of Guandong near the Pearl River estuary delta. In the densely populated metropolitan area are numerous other cities with millions of inhabitants, such as Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhongshan and the former British colonies Hong Kong and Macao. The climate is strongly influenced by the location. On the one hand, the proximity to the equator causes high average temperatures and intense sunshine with only weakly pronounced seasons. On the other hand, the China Sea, which belongs to the Pacific Ocean, has a moderating influence and prevents both extreme fluctuations and excessive heat in the summer months. The humidity fluctuates only slightly and is permanently between 66% and a maximum of 85% due to the warm temperatures and the large water areas. The amount of rain, on the other hand, varies extremely greatly from season to season.

General information about Guangzhou

It is estimated that already 3000 years ago the first settlements existed in the area of today's city. Since ancient times, the entire region has been an economic and cultural center in China and has also played an important role in the economic opening of the country in the late 1970s. The number of historical and modern sights to be found in the Guangzhou metropolitan area, which has a population of about 12 million, is correspondingly high. Among them are more than 30 public museums, some of international importance, as well as modern and ancient architecture and scientific institutions. Attractions therefore include modern supercomputers as well as exhibitions of antiquities and architectural structures such as the 600-meter-high television tower. In addition, the city has one of the oldest symphony orchestras in China and since 2010 also a modern opera house.

Tourism Guangzhou

Guangzhou is characterized by a subtropical climate without extreme heat, whose precipitation varies greatly throughout the year. Average temperatures range between 10° and 20° Celsius in the winter months from December to March, and rise by about 10° Celsius in the summer between May and September. Most of the rain falls during this period. Thus, May is the wettest month of the year with an amount of 284 mm of precipitation, while in December the value is only 24 mm. The number of rainy days decreases from 15 to only three. Typhoons also occur regularly in the summer. These very violent storms form on the warm surface of the Pacific Ocean and then move inland. There they hit with high wind speeds and heavy rainfall.
