The city of Hong Kong is located at the mouth of the Pearl River into the South China Sea. It stretches across an unevenly shaped peninsula. The territory also includes 263 islands. The largest of them are Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island and Lamma Island. The year is dominated by humid months. Especially in summer it is very humid and precipitation is particularly high. Then the Asian monsoon influences the weather. During this time, temperatures rise to over 30 degrees Celsius. In winter, the thermometers measure a mild 20 degrees Celsius. Then it is much more pleasant for tourists.

General information about Hong Kong

The best time to travel to Hong Kong is between October and April. When the monsoon is over and the rainfall decreases it becomes much more pleasant there. The skyline of Hong Kong is particularly impressive, even from higher up the skyscrapers look gigantic. That's why lookout points are especially popular with tourists. The Avenue of Stars and The Peak are very popular. Various amusement parks such as Ocean Park Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland provide the best entertainment. Vacationers can enjoy the flair of Asian markets at the Ladies Market and the Temple Street Night Market. In between, a visit to the beach is of course also possible due to the location on the South China Sea.

The weather in Hong Kong is warm all year round. Already on New Year's Eve and in the rest of January, an average of 17 degrees Celsius is measured. Precipitation occurs on only about 9 days. After that, temperatures rise steadily with fluctuations throughout the spring, as does the amount of precipitation. In May, with an average of 26 degrees Celsius, it rains 16 days a month. The Asian monsoon increases this in June, July and October. In July, peak temperatures of up to 31 degrees Celsius are usually recorded and it rains on 21 days. During this time there is high humidity, which makes for sultry days. By the end of the year, it becomes cooler again and the rain subsides. When the tourist season starts in October, weather stations register an average of 26 degrees Celsius and the beaches are deserted on 12 rainy days. In December, temperatures drop to their lowest levels in most years. December is spent at an average of 18 degrees Celsius in the Chinese megacity. It rains only on about 8 days a year.
