The climate year of Milan

Milan is located in the Po Valley between the Po River in the south and the Alps, on a flat plain with the highest elevation of 122 meters above sea level. The metropolitan region is now the cultural, media and fashion capital of Italy with the headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange. Millions of tourists visit the city's historical monuments and art treasures every year. Weather influences from Europe and from the Mediterranean are largely kept out by the Alps and the Apennines and one speaks of a subcontinental east side climate. Throughout the year there is high humidity and in winter often forms heavy fog.

General information about Milan

The most important building in Milan is the Cathedral, made of white marble and 157 meters long. When the light falls through the stained glass windows of Milan Cathedral, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente, the interior of the windows glows in all colors and you can understand why it is the most important building of Gothic art in Italy. Built over a period of five centuries, the cathedral was begun by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in 1386. Milan's La Scala is one of the most important opera houses in the world and is located in Piazza della Scala. The Porta Romana, a preserved city gate from the Spanish city walls, now stands in Piazza Medaglie d'Oro. In order to shop on dry feet, King Victor Emmanuel II built the covered shopping gallery named after him, which he himself opened on September 15, 1867. One of the landmarks of the metropolis is the Pirelli skyscraper, located in the business district near the main train station Milano Centrale, and if you want to enjoy a beautiful view of Milan and its surroundings, take the elevator up to the Torre Branca observation tower, behind the Triennale art halls.

Tourism Milan

The best time to visit Milan is from April to June, because in these months it is not too hot yet sunny, flowers are blooming everywhere and summer tourism is still far away. School vacations have not yet started and accommodation prices are still low. July and August are not so good for a trip to Milan, because in these months most Italians travel. But also spring has its pitfalls, because the foehn can affect the weather and strong hurricane-like storms can occur. But this doesn't happen every day, just like the lowest temperature of -17°C ever measured and the absolute highest of 40°C.
