The climate year of Nice

Only 30 km from Italy and 10 km from Monaco lies the modern city of Nice with many tourist attractions. The city has about 350,000 inhabitants and is the fifth largest city in France. Nice is surrounded by its own hills, the Maritime Alps (Mercantour), Mont Boron and the Esterel low mountain range between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël. Well protected and open only to the sea, it has a Mediterranean climate that is exceptionally warm and without frost even in winter. The climate in winter is mild and already in February and March the visitor can have lunch outside. Summer never gets too hot, as there is always a light wind that makes the temperatures bearable.

General information about Nice

As early as 400,000 years ago, the area around Nice was settled and during excavation work, remains were found that pointed to the settlement of Homo erectus. Remains of a settlement 190,000 to 130,000 years ago by Neanderthals were also found in the Grotte du Lazaret. These valuable finds are exhibited in the Terra Amata Museum. An interesting museum is located on the Avenue des Baumettes, the Musée des Beaux-Arts with works by French artists from the late 16th century to the mid-20th century, such as Chéret, Bronzino, Sisley, Monet and others. Mount Cimiez is home to the private collection of Henri Matisse, who spent most of his life here, and the Musée Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Cimiez features several works by Marc Chagall with biblical themes. These and other museums have earned Nice its reputation as an art metropolis. However, Nice has much more to offer, including the old port, the old town, the flower market and the carnival.

Tourism Nice

Nice possesses at the Côte d'Azur by the protection of the surrounding mountains, the warmest climate, with average maximum temperatures of 27°C in August and 12°C to 13°C in the coldest months December to February. Average nighttime lows hold at about 5°C and frost never occurs in Nice. Most precipitation falls in October and November, and the least from June to September. The best months to travel are May and mid-September to mid-October. The sea around Nice does not get very warm, but it is suitable for swimming between 19°C and 23°C from June to October. The sun shines the longest every day with 11 to 8 hours in the months of June to September.
