The climate year of Puglia

Puglia, with its capital Bari, is located in the southeast and is the flattest region of Italy. It has only one mountain range, the Monti della Daunia, on the border with Campania, with the highest mountain, Monte Cornacchia, which is 1150 meters high. From north to south, the mountainous Gargano peninsula with the Tremiti Islands is the northernmost landscape and the most popular with seaside tourists, followed by the Terra di Bari and Murge plains. Far south lies the coastal plain of Taranto with the almost flat Salento peninsula, which forms the boot heel of the mainland. The Puglia region stretches along the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, reaching the easternmost point of Italy at Otranto. From here it is only 80 km to the Albanian coast.

General information about Puglia

Worth visiting are the nature reserves of Torre Guaceto, the dolines of Altamura and the deep gorges of Laterza with their unique landscapes typical of Puglia. Besides the fascinating nature, Puglia offers many historical sites. Numerous castles on the south coast, the baroque architecture of Lecce and the well-known and famous trulli in the Itria Valley are witnesses of the past and definitely worth seeing. The small trulli are 300-year-old round stone houses with magical signs on the roofs that serve to protect the inhabitants. The old fortress-like estates (masseries) are now almost all converted into white hotels. In "Borgobianco" (white village) everything is white: the bathrooms, the stone floors, the furniture, the shirts of the waiters and around them ancient olive trees. In Gallipoli, ( Greek: kale polis) at the heel of the boot, the old town is a living museum and the beaches, for example the green bay, are irresistible. At Cape "End of the Worlds" Santa Maria di Léuca, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic meet and the popular saying is: as far away from Rome as possible, the locals are getting friendlier!
