The weather in Sapporo and its surroundings is similar to that which prevails in northern Europe. In winter, more snow falls than in the more southern Japanese cities. Snowfall is very typical for the period from October to March. For example, February has about 150 cm of snowfall. January is the coldest month of the year with an average of -8 degrees Celsius. However, from March there are also the first warmer days, which makes the climate in Sapporo similar not only to Northern Europe, but also to Eastern Canada.
