Beautiful Sri Lanka is a warm and pleasant destination throughout the year, with conditions strongly influenced by the periodic monsoon. If you want to enjoy the country in full bloom, you must travel to this beautiful island from December to March, after the monsoon with its rain has transformed the beautiful landscape into a wonderful oasis. After that, the really hot time of the year begins on Sri Lanka, which brings many pleasant hours of sunshine. But only in the north of the island you have to expect heavier rain during the days of the monsoon. In any case, one should avoid going there in the rainiest time, especially in the months of October and November.
Among the very special sights are the impressive tooth temple of Kandy with its enormously large library and the unique elephant orphanage of Pinnawela. A visa for at least thirty days is required for travel to Sri Lanka. Further information about the entry requirements can be obtained from the German Foreign Office. The beautiful seaside resorts of Beruwela and Hikkaduwa have become known as a true vacation paradise for tourists, with a regular and unique powdered sugar beach. The hotels are luxuriously equipped and offer everything the heart desires. Especially Arugam Bay is a beautiful pearl among the dream beaches, because the island coast here is largely natural and almost untouched. The bay is hardly frequented by package tourists because of the poor accessibility and an absolute insider tip for sun and bathing lovers and for passionate surfers.
Temperatures in Sri Lanka are usually very high and vary very little throughout the year. In the particularly dry northeast of the island, they are usually higher than in the southwest, which also has higher humidity. The highest temperatures can be found on the thermometer in March to June. On the other hand, the coolest season on the island is November to January. Temperatures in the coastal lowlands are around 26-31 degrees. Even at night it rarely falls below 25 degrees. The humidity is very high with up to 70-90%. However, the areas immediately along the coast are more tolerable due to the refreshing sea breezes. In the central mountains, temperatures vary between 20 and 24 degrees above 1000m and between 12-16 degrees above 2000m. Humidity is also much lower than in the lowlands.
