Tokyo is located in the temperate climate zone, which gives this great city pleasant temperatures all year round. Thus, in winter, sub-zero temperatures are very rare. And the summer does not hold any tropical temperatures. Instead, there are sometimes heavy rains, but you can protect yourself with an umbrella and a good dose of humor. All in all, a very nice climate, which justifies a year-round visit to the Japanese city.
The Japanese culture can be discovered excellently in Tokyo. And this not only while shopping or eating extensively the typical food of the country. Sightseeing, beautiful neighborhoods and many festivals are also on offer throughout the year. In addition, the city offers modern as well as typical Japanese aspects.
For example, Tokyo has a wide variety of theaters. The traditional theaters are especially worth seeing, as they offer a program that we as Central Europeans are not familiar with. Thus, a look at the New National Theater or the Suntory Hall is worthwhile. The museums are just as interesting. The National Museum is located in the Taito district. It is the largest and oldest museum in Japan. The National Museum of Modern Art is very modern and artistic.
If you are more interested in the green lungs of the city, you will find several parks. Ueno Park or Yoyogi Park are just a few examples.
Between March and May, spring also takes place in Tokyo. While in March it is sometimes still quite cool, so that a warming jacket must be worn, in April and May many sunny and pleasantly warm days can be found. However, the temperature difference between night and day is quite large, so that a jacket should always be taken in the evening. The trees sprout new leaves and everything is beautifully green. Summer is quite warm, but not too hot. But the humidity is quite high, especially in August, and rain threatens on some days. The autumn from September to November is characterized by typhoons. The temperatures drop little by little and the leaves change color. In winter, as with us, you have to reckon with quite cool temperatures. However, there is rarely frost. Snow is accordingly very little and the winter also allows beautiful trips to the capital of Japan.
By the way: If you don't only want to visit Tokyo, you will find many opportunities for winter sports around Tokyo, especially in the winter months. Only the city remains snow-free, the country around can have a beautiful snow cover.
