The climate year of Zakynthos

In the middle of the blue of the Ionian Sea picturesquely lies the small island of Zakynthos, which is considered the sunniest island of the Mediterranean. It is the third largest of the Ionian islands and the tenth largest of the Greek islands after Corfu and Kefalonia. Unlike the Greek mainland, Zakynthos was under Central and Western European rule for more than seven centuries. The culture of the Venetians, who gave the island the name "Zante" and "Fior die Levante", which means "Flower of the East", is still omnipresent today. In the south of the island is found the bay of Laganas, bounded on the east and west by two peninsulas.

General information about Zakynthos

Covering an area of 410 square kilometers, one can find lush vegetation, fine sandy beaches and mighty mountains. The island is also considered very fertile, which is reflected in the classic products, such as olives and wine, as well as in tropical fruits and cereals. On the east coast of the island is the capital of the same name, which was built in the form of an ancient theater. In addition to many Greek Orthodox churches, such as Panagia Faneromeni or Agios Dionysios, there is also a Roman Catholic church. In the north of the island is the famous bay with the shipwreck Navagio, which is depicted on many postcards. As well as the fake sea turtles, the famous Caretta caretta, which come every summer to the southern beaches to bury their eggs at night. The west coast is characterized by rocks and is difficult to walk on, nevertheless from here you have a wonderful view of the sea, the forests and mountains of the island.

Tourism Zakynthos

The climate on Zakynthos is considered Mediterranean, the best time to travel is between May and the end of September. The sunny island is not only called so, it also has the most hours of sunshine in Greece. In summer, the temperature scale can rise from 22 to 38 degrees. But not only in high summer the island is suitable for a bathing vacation, already in the middle of May the temperatures rise to pleasant 25 degrees, the water temperature to nearly 20 degrees and in September still temperatures up to 29 degrees and water temperatures of 23 degrees are possible. Since there are fewer tourists on the island during this time, these months are ideal for a vacation away from the tourist hustle and bustle. In winter there is usually a lot of precipitation on Zakynthos and the temperature drops to about 15 degrees. In spring, due to the winter precipitation, the vegetation blooms again to an unimagined splendor.
