The climate year of Lago Maggiore

In the catchment area of Lago Maggiore, in German Langensee, the temperatures are higher than in the Po Valley. The large water surface of the lake has a balancing effect on temperature, so that in winter there is no snow and in summer the temperatures do not get too high. There are periods in summer when there is no precipitation for a long time and most of the rainfall occurs only due to heat storms. In the months from June to September the water temperature rises to about 24°C and is suitable for a refreshing swim. All the Upper Italian lakes were formed by the melting of glaciers from the Ice Age. With a length of about 64 km and a width of 10 km, Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Northern Italy.
