The climate year of Oceania
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world and can boast 7.7 million km². 60 percent of the land mass is made up by the Western Australian Plateau with its table land, where the vacationer can find impressive landscapes like different deserts and a mountainous landscape like the Mac Donnell Ranges. The Nullarbor Desert, the Great Victoria Desert, the Gibson Desert and the Great Sand Desert show the dry regions of Australia. Here, however, the vacationer also finds the impressive island mountains, with Uluru being one of the landmarks of this region. With the Simpson Desert, the vacationer can visit the driest area of Australia and at the lowest point of the country there are salt lakes, but also interesting freshwater lakes, which dry up at regular intervals due to the lack of rainfall.
Among the mountains of the country, Mount Kosciuszko can inspire, as it is the highest mountain of the mainland of the continent with 2229 meters. However, the highest mountain in Australia is on the island of Heard, where Big Ben can be found at 2745 meters. However, if we consider Oceania as a continent, the Carstensz Pyramid with its 4884 meters on New Guinea is the highest elevation in the region. A special region of Australia are the outbacks, where the vacationer can find semi-deserts and deserts. Several climate zones can be found in Australia, where temperate can change into subtropical and tropical.
New Zealand can offer beautiful coastal regions with mild climate, but also mountain ranges in the east. The rest of Oceania with its islands can provide tropical vacation pleasure, and the vacationer is guaranteed not to find bad weather here.
General information about Oceania
If one travels to Oceania, then Australia with its green coastal regions is always a popular destination. But also the dry regions of the interior with its deserts and semi-deserts is visited with pleasure, because the vacationers like to photograph the table mountains like the famous Ayers Rock.
For the nature lover, a trip to Oceania is a special treat, because animals live here that the rest of the world does not have to offer. Thus, koalas and kangaroos can be marveled at, but the geographical isolation of the country has allowed old animal keepers to be preserved and new unusual breeds of animals to emerge. Cloacal animals that lay eggs, marsupial singers and a variety of spiders and snakes, delight every animal lover. But also the flora of the continent is impressive and can inspire with unusual plant species that can only grow and thrive in Australia. From December to February, Australia is appreciated as an escape from the cold European winter, where you can indulge in water sports on 11,000 beaches. In the paradise for sun worshippers, vacationers should not miss Bondi Beach and Byron Bay. But Sunshinecoast and Goldcoast are also recommended if you want to go swimming like in St. Tropez. Fraser Island, Cable Beach or Turquoise Bay, who visits Australia can look forward to a great bathing vacation, even if in Germany just the friends have to freeze in ice and snow. Of course, islands like New Zealand or the Polynesian islands are ideal for a bathing vacation, where even throughout the year ideal temperatures for sunbathing and swimming in the sea can be found.
Australia can provide any German vacationer with a pleasant alternative program to their own climate. Because if it is cold and wet here from December to February, Australia can provide a hot summer with quite a lot of sunshine hours. On the other hand, during the German summer months from May to August, vacationers can find cooler temperatures in some regions in Australia, but no ice and snow can be expected, because the temperatures remain above freezing. Pleasantly cool can now also visit regions that are not suitable for some vacationers in the summer months due to a dry heat.
For a summer vacation in New Zealand, vacationers can expect temperatures around 30 degrees from December to February, but even from June to August, you can't expect snow and ice here, as temperatures are wonderfully mild and won't drop below 10 degrees Celsius. In the remaining months of the year, New Zealand is the ideal destination for those who love mild temperatures and who like to swim in warm sea water when nobody in Germany wants to swim in the North and Baltic Seas.
Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia
Oceania includes countless small and large islands, with Samoa, Tonga or the Cook Islands able to provide warm temperatures all year round. The subtropical climate can bring maximum temperatures up to around 30 degrees and even at night the temperatures do not drop below 15 degrees. In April and May you can expect increased rainfall and depending on the island you should consider the months of June to November as travel months, because at this time a hurricane can spoil the vacation fun.
