The climate year of Lake Como

Lago di Como used to be called Larius Lacus (Roman) or simply Lario. It is a lake about 51 km long and 4 km wide in the mild Mediterranean climate of northern Italy. Around the lake there are many towns and villages where tourism is not yet very noticeable and have preserved their Italian charm to this day. Due to the mild climate, palm trees, olive trees, citrus trees and many more flourish in the gardens. Many films use the lake as a backdrop and celebrities such as Madonna, Brad Pitt or George Clooney own one of the beautiful houses on the lake as a vacation home.

General information about Lake Como

A popular destination is the lake's only island, Isola Comacina, which was already inhabited in ancient times. Not only the landscape, but also the towns like Bellano, Varenna, Como or Menaggio should be visited by the visitor to Lake Como and be fascinated by the sights and old townscapes. Some of the luxurious villas date back to the 15th century, when the silk industry made the area around Lake Como rich. Como has some ancient buildings and Varenna captivates with its Italian photo motifs. In winter, around Lake Como await some fantastic ski resorts, such as St. Moritz, for cross-country skiers Lake Silvaplana and for romantics the village of Madesimo on the Splügen Pass.

Tourism Lake Como

Many active vacationers come to Lake Como for hiking, climbing and water sports. During most of the hikes you can always enjoy the wonderful view of the lake and due to the southern location all hikes can be done from April to November, some even all year round. Except in winter, a thermal wind blows in the upper part of the lake between 10 am and 6 pm, making June to September ideal months for windsurfing. From October to the beginning of February, the breva subsides and then goes to sleep completely. Lovers of Lake Como have long known that autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons. There is mild and constant weather, colorful nature and many cultural attractions. From the end of April to the beginning of October it is the turn of sailors, kitesurfers and motorboat fans, while the lake offers bathing temperatures from mid-May to September/October with 19°C to 24°C, depending on the weather. The most sunny hours are from June to September and the fewest rainy days are in January and February with 4 to 5 days per month.
