The Costa Brava has a predominantly mild climate. The province of Gironda, bordering Barcelona in the south, France and the Pyrenees in the north, is subject to microclimatic variations. It can be a bit stormy. The wind blowing from the Pyrenees often reaches the critical strength. In Catalonia it is called Tramuntana. It is a land wind related to the Mistral and the Tramontana. The strong sea winds also reach respectable speeds and can reach far into the country. In summer, a welcome cooling of the heat of the day and a paradise for surfers who like to cavort on the Gulf of Roses. The coasts of the Catalan Mediterranean have a balanced maritime climate, which is six to seven degrees warmer than on the Spanish Atlantic. With an average of 200 days of sunshine a year, it is subject to much less fluctuation than the continental climate inland.

The Romanesque monastery ruins of Sant Pere de Rodes, the Castell de Sant Ferran or the fortress of Peralada, where you can also find an Augustinian monastery church, are worthwhile destinations.

The hottest months on the Costa Brava are June and July, the coldest January and February. Most precipitation falls in November, with rainfall increasing significantly from south to north. In July and August, the average is 50 liters per square meter, while in winter it is 85 liters per square meter. Temperatures vary between 21°C and 28°C in summer and drop to 6°C to 10°C in winter. The water is about 12°C in February and a pleasant 24°C in summer.
