The climate year of Lake Garda
Lake Garda or Bènaco was called Lacus benacus until about 800 A.D. after an ancient deity named Benacus. The past ice age formed the lake and the first settlement dates back to 2000 BC. Today the climate is sub-Mediterranean with dry, mild winters and hot summers. To the north of Lake Garda are the two-thousand-meter peaks such as Monte Baldo, and the south juts out into the Po Valley. Lake Garda is famous for its Mediterranean flair due to plants such as oleanders, olive trees, palms, agaves, opuntias and on the western shore, the Riviera dei Limoni, orange and lemon trees. On the eastern shore, the Riviera degli Olivi, you can still find large olive groves and many vines on the slopes of Monte Baldo. Lake Garda has 158 km of coastline with small but beautiful beaches and many cycling and hiking trails.

Tourism Lake Garda
If you want it turbulent and really warm, visit Lake Garda in July and August. The temperatures then rise to about 30°C and the water temperature up to 20°C. In the low season of June and September, temperatures stay at 25°C to 26°C in the air and 18°C to 19°C in the water, after that or before it is usually too cold to swim in the lake. On the southwestern shore of the lake, in Gardone Riviera, the climate is the mildest. The sun worshipper enjoys seven to ten hours of sunshine daily from June to September and the most rainy days in the months of April to June. The special position of Lake Garda gives rise to two winds that are well-known and popular among sailors. The Ora is a south wind, starts around noon and ends in the early evening hours. The Pelér or Vento starts in the second half of the night and usually blows until the morning.
