The climate year of Ischia

Warm summers and mild winters are the Mediterranean climate of Ischia, which has a particularly good soil where all kinds of plants feel at home. Especially wine grows excellently on Ischia, but also palms, oleanders and cacti love "The green island", as it is popularly called. The ancient name of Ischia is Pithecusae and comes from the Greeks, who were the first to live on the island in the years 700 BC. Today Ischia has 62,000 inhabitants and is the largest island in the Gulf of Naples. Ischia offers visitors flat coasts, beautiful beaches, rugged cliffs, hills and mountains. Since the 14th century, the volcano is no longer active, but at the bottom, under the ground, the volcano is still bubbling and is the reason that Ischia became rich and famous. Every pension and hotel has its own swimming pool with thermal spring and offers visitors steam baths and mud packs.

General information about Ischia

A highlight just off the coast of Ischia is the Castello Aragonese with its picturesque garden. The medieval mountain fortress was built on a small rocky island of trachyte stone. Alfonso of Aragon connected the small island with the larger one by a wooden bridge, which was later built of stone. The Castello is privately owned but can be visited and is now a hotel where art exhibitions and musical performances are held. The view from the fortification is worthwhile.
Also worthwhile is a shopping trip to the small towns of Forio to Casamicciola Terme and a trip by boat cab to Maronti beach, the most beautiful beach on Ischia. An insider tip for a day in hot springs is an excursion to the "Parco Negombo" which requires extra admission, but in return you can enjoy the facility extensively.
